Looking at Farewill? A fair comparison.

Valoren’s £149 will comes with a year of Will Watch and the household dossier around it — records, contacts, instructions, kept current. Farewill is one of the UK’s best-known online will-writers — 4.9★ from over 20,000 Trustpilot reviews (checked 23 Aug 2026), now part of the Dignity funerals group — and its headline will price is lower than ours.

The comparison worth making is about what happens around and after the document — records, ongoing upkeep, and who actually conducts the estate when the will is finally used.

§1

At a glance.

Both services can produce a legally valid will. The overlap is the document itself — everything else is where the two approaches genuinely diverge.

§2

What Farewill is.

Farewill writes wills online, and sells probate and funeral services alongside them. Its headline will price is lower than ours — £100 single against our £149, checked 23 August 2026. Since 2024 it has been part of the Dignity funerals group.

After the will is written it offers an optional update subscription — the first year free, then £10 a year per person, with the current terms on their own site. That keeps the document current; keeping the estate current is a different job, and §3 is about the difference.

And to correct a falsehood you may have read elsewhere: yes, Farewill is actively writing wills — claims that it exited will-writing are wrong; its wills, probate and funeral services are all live, confirmed as of 23 August 2026.

§3

The comparison that’s actually worth making.

The will document is where the two services overlap. Everything around it is where they don’t. A will answers one question — who inherits. It does not tell your executor where the accounts are, which policies exist, what’s owed, who to call, or what you wanted done with the digital life.

Farewill’s optional subscription keeps the document current; Valoren’s £149 includes a year of Will Watch for the document and exists inside a system — the household dossier — built for the estate: records, contacts, instructions, kept current and findable.

One product updates the will. The other keeps the household runnable.

Which you need depends on what you’re protecting: a document, or the people who’ll have to use it.

§4

The probate question.

If the will is ever used, someone administers the estate — and that experience is worth choosing deliberately. Farewill offers probate services; how the work is delivered — in-house or through partner firms — is described on their own site, and you should read that description before instructing anyone.

Valoren’s route is different by design. Estate work is conducted through Signum, its specialist desk — the grant, or the full matter, carried out by the qualified professional whose authorisation covers it, with a fixed written quote before any work begins. The estate’s records are built first, so the administration starts complete rather than starting with a search.

Whichever route you choose, ask the question before you instruct anyone — not after.

FAQ

Farewill, answered honestly.

Yes. As at 23 August 2026, Farewill actively offers wills, probate and funerals, and is part of the Dignity group. Some third-party sites claim it wound down will-writing — that claim is false, and worth knowing about mainly as a reminder to check any brand's status on its own site.
The Dignity funerals group, following its acquisition announced in 2024.
A will isn't "moved" — it's replaced. Making a new will (which revokes the old one) is the clean route; ours includes Will Watch.

If Farewill stores your current original, keep it safe until the new one is signed.
Updating a will changes the document. Maintaining an estate keeps everything around the document — accounts, policies, contacts, instructions — current and findable.

Executors spend far more time on the second than the first.
