Prudential is part of M&G. Prudential’s bereavement service is now on M&G’s website.
The form is open to family members and friends, solicitors and financial advisers: it asks which you are.
Their form’s start page does not list the death certificate among the things to have ready, and the form marks the death certificate registration reference number as optional. Their own bereavement pages do not say whether they want an original or a copy of the certificate. M&G Investments says it accepts only the original, and Waystone, for the Prudential ISA, asks you to post the original.
The form takes around 10 minutes. You cannot save it and come back later, so gather the details first. You can review your answers before you submit.
Some products cannot use the form. Their form says to use another route for Car and Home insurance, Workplace pensions, the Prudential ISA, Prudential International products and Prudential Guaranteed Income Plans, for policy numbers in the format ABC1234567, and if you are under 18. Those routes are in the list of other teams.
Their bereavement page lists “By phone” and says 0800 calls are free from BT landlines and can vary from other providers.
After you submit, the form’s confirmation screen says a member of their bereavement team will review what you sent, that depending on the type of product and the information they have it could take some time before they are back in touch, and that they will contact you as soon as they can (read from the form’s code, as the form itself needs a browser). Their what-happens-next page says they review what you sent, then contact you in writing or by phone with a decision or a request for more information or documents. Depending on the products, the review could take some time.
They may send you a claim form to fill in. Their page does not give its name or code.
Payments go by bank transfer or cheque to the right person or people, usually within 3 to 5 working days of the decision. If the person had several products or policies, each claim is paid once it has been decided. You can give payment details in the form to speed things up, or later.
Not sure the person had a Prudential plan? Their lost-plan page says they can help you trace one, including a plan held by a family member who has died. They ask for the planholder’s full name, date of birth, National Insurance number and the address where the last payment was made. If you write, include a copy of the planholder’s ID (a driver’s licence or passport).
M&G Investments (funds, ISAs and OEICs bought direct from M&G) has its own bereavement team: 0800 390 390, Monday to Friday 08:00–18:00 and Saturday 09:00–13:00 (UK time). Calls are free from the UK. From outside the UK, call +44 (0)1268 448 031 in UK opening hours.
M&G Investments: you can tell them by phone (they try to verify the death electronically), by uploading the death certificate through My Account (Help&Upload, access code BEREAVED), or by post with the original death certificate to M&G Customer Relations, PO Box 9039, Chelmsford, CM99 2XG. They accept only the original certificate, and return it by recorded delivery.
M&G Investments: sole accounts are put on hold and you are sent a valuation as at the date of death. Joint accounts carry on with the surviving holder or holders, and no Grant of Representation is needed. M&G Investments' bereavement page says a Grant of Representation usually takes around two months to get, but can take longer for complex cases.
M&G Investments: if you sell, they confirm by close of business the next working day. M&G Investments' bereavement page says that once anti-money-laundering checks have been completed they send the proceeds within three working days. M&G Investments' guide says no later than three working days after they receive a completed withdrawal form, or once those checks have been satisfactorily completed.
Prudential is not on GOV.UK’s list of organisations Tell Us Once notifies.
Tell Us Once does not tell banks, mortgage providers, insurance providers, companies the person had contracts with (such as utility companies, landlords or housing associations), or personal or workplace pension schemes other than the public sector ones it contacts. GOV.UK says you will need to contact organisations like these yourself, and lists other things you may also need to do: update the property records if the person owned land or property; contact DVLA if they owned a vehicle and you sell it, or keep it and tax it in your own name; contact HMRC if they owed business taxes like VAT; contact the Student Loans Company if they had a student loan; and contact DWP if a child or baby has died and you get benefits as their parent or carer.
Tell Us Once is available only if the person was living in England, Scotland or Wales. GOV.UK says it cannot be used if the person was living in Northern Ireland when they died, or living abroad permanently when they died.

How Tell Us Once worksOne free online notification tells the member organisations you choose, at the same time.
Prudential is not on the Death Notification Service’s own list of members, so the service cannot tell Prudential for you. Read from its member list on 16 October 2026.
Notification only. Each member you choose updates its records and tells you the next steps. The service’s own FAQ says to expect that within 10 working days where a member holds a live account, and that a member holding no account will not write back.
Every route here was read from Prudential’s own pages on 16 October 2026, not from a directory or a search result. If this page and Prudential’s own page ever disagree, believe theirs.
SONAR is our own watch over the figures and links this site publishes. It can flag a change; it cannot edit this page. A person re-reads Prudential’s page and re-dates it.
