Common questions
The eight core records are: (1) your will — date, location, executor names; (2) your main bank account — provider, account type, online login route; (3) your pension — scheme, reference, latest valuation; (4) your identity documents — passport, driving licence, birth certificate locations; (5) your home — mortgage or rental, title deeds or Land Registry entry; (6) your digital access — email recovery route and password manager setup; (7) your trusted person — named, briefed, and knows where the records are; and (8) your medical baseline — NHS number, GP, advance decision.
These eight cover the vast majority of what an executor, attorney or trusted person needs on day one.
The goal is not to store passwords or account numbers — it is to make sure someone can find each record within one working day. For a bank account, the useful thing to record is provider name, approximate account type, and where the paperwork or statement is.
For a will, the useful thing is location of the signed original and who the executor is. Details change; the location principle is stable.
