When your adviser recommends a will service

Whoever drafts the will, the layer around it stays yours — the original findable, the executors informed, the records current. That layer is what the household dossier is, sold on its own with no adviser in between. If your adviser named Kinherit, these are Kinherit's own stated terms: STEP-qualified drafting, a starting price with the final fee confirmed on engagement, and a policy of never writing itself in as executor. If they named a different service, the same questions apply. This page explains the model, the questions worth asking, and what remains yours to organise either way.

The B2B2C model
§1

A financial adviser refers. A specialist drafts. Your adviser stays in the loop.

Your financial adviser recommends a specialist will service; the service drafts; your adviser stays in the loop. It's a business-to-business-to-consumer model. Kinherit, the channel's best-known name, states its whole will-writing team is STEP-qualified — ask any other service the same. Pricing typically starts from a published headline figure, with the final fee confirmed once your adviser has scoped the work. And the will is drafted with sight of your financial plan.

STEP-qualified drafting

Kinherit states its will-writing team is all STEP-qualified. Ask whichever service your adviser names the same question.

Starting price, final fee on engagement

A published headline price, with the final fee confirmed once the adviser makes the introduction and the scope is known.

Built with sight of your plan

The will is drafted alongside your financial plan — context a standalone will-writer rarely has.

Before you say yes

How is the recommendation remunerated?

Not because payment is wrong — because disclosure is your right, and a good adviser answers in one sentence.

Stated plainly
§3

What this channel provides

Three things this channel provides, stated here rather than buried, because leaving them out would flatter us. Each is either Kinherit's own published statement or a structural feature of the referral model:

Drafting to a stated qualification

Kinherit states all of its will-writing specialists are STEP-qualified — a recognised professional benchmark.

Built around your full financial picture

The will is drafted with sight of your financial plan — a standalone will rarely has that context.

Not written in as executor

Kinherit states it never names itself as executor of a will it drafts. Valoren never acts as executor either — parity, not an advantage on either side.

Named specifically
§4

Kinherit, specifically

Kinherit is the best-known name in this channel. Their model also captures practical information around the will — the free Kinvault, set out in §5, below — which puts it in the same category of product as the household dossier, reached through the adviser channel where Valoren is bought direct.

Scope

What stays with the family
§5

Whoever drafts, ask what happens to this layer over time

However good the drafting: the original still has to be findable, the executors informed, the records current, and the whole picture revisited when life moves. That layer is a household discipline more than a drafting deliverable — and Kinherit builds part of it: the free Kinvault, supplied with a Kinherit will, is a secure digital vault holding an address book, asset register and documents, released to executors or attorneys after an identity check when the moment comes. That overlap is stated here rather than buried, because leaving it out would flatter us. The differences: the Kinvault comes bundled with a Kinherit will, through the adviser channel; the household dossier is sold on its own, whoever drafted your will, with Will Watch on the document itself — and keeping the record current as life moves is the discipline the subscription exists to carry. Whether any vault is kept current over the years is a question worth asking of whichever service holds your records.

The household dossier is this layer sold on its own — no will purchase required, no adviser in between, whoever drafted the document.

From reading to ready

This guide is free, and it stays free. The Household Continuity Dossier renders your household's own version — your people, your accounts, your wishes — into a maintained record your executor or trusted person will actually reach for, kept current every year.

§6Common questions

Adviser-referred wills, answered.

That is your decision, and this page doesn't make it for you. What the model gives you is specialist drafting with sight of your finances; what it costs is settled after your adviser has scoped the work. Ask how the recommendation is remunerated, ask who drafts and to what qualification, and get the final fee in writing before anything starts.

Valoren's wills are the other route: published at £149 single and £229 mirror, bought direct with no referral, self-service within eligibility rules signed off by a practising solicitor — no individual solicitor review, and complex estates are routed out.
Kinherit publishes a starting price (from £375 for a single will, £545 for a mirror pair) for its standard STEP-qualified drafting.

The final fee depends on your circumstances and is confirmed once your adviser has scoped the work — do get it in writing before anything starts.
The document, no. The estate around it, yes — findability, records, currency. Ten minutes on the free estate health check shows whether that layer exists in your household.
